SHED HUNTING

A GUIDE TO FINDING WHITE-TAILED DEER ANTLERS

In Alaska

June 25, 2009

I’ve been in Alaska now for a couple weeks now. For the summer, I’m guiding rafting trips down the Kenai River in the southern part of the state. I “work” 6 days a week. It’s a lot of fun. Don’t have a whole lot of time to get out looking for sheds. I’ve been out twice and have found four cow moose skulls. I would love to find a bull moose skull with antlers on. Hopefully it’ll happen! I’ve seen some caribou and some moose. Hoping to get sheds from both. My last time out I did find my first Alaskan shed. It’s a moose antler but there’s hardly anything left of it. It could be 10 years old or more, I don’t know. Wish it would’ve been a freshie. Hopefully soon.
