SHED HUNTING

A GUIDE TO FINDING WHITE-TAILED DEER ANTLERS

Top Hunting Blogs of 2011

October 27, 2011

top-hunting-blogs-2I was surprised to get an email yesterday from Veterans Benefits G I Bill online yesterday. They announced that they had named my Shed Hunting blog one of the Top 60 Hunting Blogs of 2011. It seems a little odd to me that they would be ranking hunting blogs, but hey, who cares, right? Ha ha! It’s always nice to be recognized. So I owe a big thank you to all of you who post here and participate. This blog would be nothing without you. Unfortunately, this award comes in late October when most people are thinking about killing deer, not finding sheds, and I doubt if many people will read this! I know I spend little time on the blog myself this time of year. I will repost this during the heart of next shed season. Thank you again for all of those who read and post on my blog. I appreciate all your input. In case you’re curious, I was listed #53. I’m sure that it was listed in random order so no one’s feelings were hurt. If not, then I’m glad it was the top 60 and not the top 50 or I’d be on the outside looking in!  You can read more about it at their website http://www.veteransbenefitsgibill.com/top-hunting-blogs/

Moose Rack

October 4, 2011

Well, here it is, October. Most people probably aren’t thinking about sheds now, but it’s always at the back of my mind. Just wanted to update this blog, since it’s been months since I have. My dad helped me with a little project last week. We mounted up these moose antlers. A lot of folks make crafts out of antlers, but I can’t STAND to alter them from their natural form. So drilling into these bad boys was almost like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. But I like the way they turned out. Debating if I want to keep the hardwood cookie or cover it with leather. I think it would look good either way. Moose antlers always look good, especially when they’re laying on the ground in front of you!
